Avoindata.fi

Avoindata.fi

Avoindata.fi (also avoindata.suomi.fi) is Finland’s national open data portal. Public organisations publish datasets here: statistics, geographic data, transport feeds and other files meant for reuse. Formats are typically CSV, JSON, GeoPackage or an API.

Each dataset page names the maintainer, the licence, the last update and the files. Read those fields before you build anything on the data. Quality and update rhythm depend on the publisher.

Open data is not personal customer data. GDPR still applies to personal data. See Tietosuoja.

Helsinki-region geographic datasets are often listed on HRI (hri.fi) as well as on Avoindata.

Practical advice

Check the licence. Many government datasets allow commercial use if you name the source. Some do not.

If you need official statistics in table form, StatFin on Tilastokeskus may be faster than searching the portal by keyword.

Where to seek advice

The best place to start is Avoindata.fi: https://www.avoindata.fi/

Search and read the dataset page, then contact the maintainer named on that page if a file is broken or undocumented. For statistics questions, Statistics Finland (info@stat.fi) is the right desk.
